Anybody have an aging puppy?

My baby is going on twelve and a half now. About two years go he started getting creaky - slow to get up, back legs a little shaky...he stopped jumping into the bay window (which he used to love like some kind of over-sized cat) and started struggling to jump on our ridiculously high bed.

It was all breaking my heart.

The vet told me it was the usual old-age arthritis setting in and I asked if there was anything we could do. He gave me three ideas, and since then, Gordon is MUCH BETTER! He's not perfect - he's still a little slow to get up if he's been laying down a while. But he jumps in the window again and hops on the bed. His legs don't shake as much. These medicines do more to stop the advance of arthritis than cure it -- so my only regret is I didn't start sooner. I thought I'd share so maybe you can ask your vet about it and catch things earlier than I did for your baby! Talk to your vet about amounts, etc. I AM NOT A VET. Just sharing what worked for Gordon. Dasaquin Advanced - This is the one I couldn't find on Amazon, they have regular Dasaquin though, which the doc said was almost as good. I buy it directly from from vet's online store. Duralactin (this is supposed to be the really good one)

  • Duralactin is not a drug or steroid but is a natural product derived from milk
  • Safer effective management of chronic inflammation including osteoarthritis
  • No toxic side effects making it ideal for long-term use
  • Can be used alone or in conjunction with NSAIDs or steroids
  • Highly palatable vanilla-flavored tablets are scored for easy dosage

Omega 3 fatty acid You can use something over the counter like Nature Made or you can buy Free Form.
